Saehan Nanotech Co., Ltd. has successfully completed Korea's first motor magnet cutting project, using its proprietary multi-wire diamond wire sawing technology to precision-slice NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) sintered permanent magnets for EV traction motor applications.
NdFeB rare earth permanent magnets are the critical component powering over 90 percent of electric vehicle motors. These magnets must be precision-cut from sintered blocks into arc segments and thin wafers — a process that presents unique challenges due to the material's extreme brittleness and the fire risk from metallic dust generated during cutting.
Why Diamond Wire Sawing
Conventional cutting methods (blade saws, EDM) are either too slow, generate excessive heat, or produce dangerous metallic dust. Diamond wire sawing with water-based coolant eliminates the fire risk while delivering superior cut quality and minimal kerf loss.
Saehan Nanotech's Advantage
- Proprietary tilting and rotating mechanism delivers up to 3x productivity vs. conventional wire sawing
- Water-based coolant system eliminates metallic dust fire risk
- Ultra-fine diamond wire minimizes kerf loss — critical for expensive rare earth materials
- Material-specific process recipes validated through extensive production testing
This milestone validates Saehan Nanotech's technology for the rapidly growing EV motor magnet supply chain and positions the company for further international expansion in this segment.
